12. Three Things Parents Should Know Before Potty Training

8/21/2020

Are you confuse when to start potty training? Are you wondering what to get before potty training? While potty readiness begins with the child, potty training starts with the parents. Potty training can start after both parents and child ready. Last week we talked about the signs of children’s readiness, today I’d like to introduce to parents how can you get ready for potty training.
First, choose the right time. The most important thing to keep in mind when starting potty training is to avoid false starts. Even if your child seems ready, I recommend you to avoid potty training during transitional or stressful times. Like you or your child is sick or recovering from an illness; you are about to move or have just completed a major move. Children will do best while learning potty if they’re relaxed and on a regular routine.
Second, pick the right potty and placement. Some children are afraid of falling in the toilet or hearing it flush. If your child is comfortable in the bathroom, try a potty seat that goes on top of your toilet to reduce the size of the bowl’s opening. If not, you can buy a stand alone potty chair and put it in the playroom or child’s bedroom, where your child will become comfortable with it presence over time. When your child ready to give it a try, move it into the bathroom for repeated use. also, get a stepstool, if your child using a potty seat, he/she need it to reach the toilet and also to give their feet support while pooping.
Third, get a potty training doll. A potty training doll helps maximize learning by combining a child’s developing imagination and play with a real life experience. It provides the child the opportunity to walk through the training process step by step. In the process of teaching doll all the steps of potty training, your child learns everything they need to know.
Next week we will talk about potty training progress. Don’t forget to come back.
That’s for today. Thanks for watching! If you have questions or thoughts, please leave a comment below. Don’t forget to subscribe and follow us to get more! See you next week!
